The Bokashi System for us works best with 2 buckets.
How it works:
We fill one bucket with our food-waste for about 2 -3 weeks. Each 1" layer of foodwaste gets 2 - 4 tbs of Bokashi bran mixed in. When the bucket is filled, it gets stored outside for further fermentation, while we fill the second bucket. When the second bucket is filled , we dig the first bucket into the ground and start over.That way we continuously keep fermenting and collecting food-waste at the same time.
It takes 4 - 6 weeks to be able to dig the compost into the ground. Meanwhile you can harvest the liquid from the fermentation process to fertilize your garden and indoor plants. For our lifestyle it is more effective and convenient than standard composting methods.
